Granite City man sentenced for DUI crash that killed 70-year-old woman last fall

A Granite City man has been sentenced to 12 years behind bars after pleading guilty to a charge that he fatally struck another person while under the influence of drugs last fall.

Frank L Hollenback IV, 30, appeared in Madison County Court on Thursday for his sentencing hearing following his guilty plea to one count of aggravated driving under the influence resulting in death, according to State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons’ Office.

Hollenback was sentenced to 12 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, of which he must serve 85%.

On November 1, 2019, Hollenback was charged with two more counts of the same charge. Lab tests came back confirming he had fentanyl, alprazolam, amphetamine, methamphetamine and tramadol in his system when he struck the victim, Dora E. Greer, the state’s attorney’s office staid.

Greer was driving to the store on the evening of October 14 when her car was struck by Hollenback. Greer was airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital where she died the next morning from her injuries.

Greer’s family attended the sentencing hearing to give their victim impact statements, a release stated. Her four daughters spoke on behalf of their mother. A daughter also delivered a statement on behalf of Greer’s husband.

“I remember back in 1962 I had met a young lady named Dora,” the statement said. “I found one of the greatest gifts a person could receive in life...It was an honor and a blessing to have 57 years with this lady.”
