St. Clair Square reopened after police respond to ‘disturbance’

St. Clair Square reopened late Tuesday afternoon after police shut it down for more than an hour to investigate a “disturbance.”

Fairview Heights and Illinois State Police were on the scene at the rear of the mall, near the food court entrance.

In a news release, Fairview Heights police said they were investigating a “disturbance” at the shopping center since 3:10 p.m. Police cleared the mall and asked the public to stay clear of the area.

At approximately, 4:45 p.m. Fairview Heights police posted on social media accounts that the mall had been “thoroughly searched and has been deamed (sic) safe to reopen.”

The mall had been temporarily closed as police investigated.
