Three in custody after high-speed chase on Interstate 55 in Madison County
Three people were arrested Wednesday afternoon following a high-speed police chase on Interstate 55 in Madison County.
At 12:11 p.m., Highland police were called to Motel Road west of Highland in unincorporated Madison County for a report of a home invasion, the department said in a news release. Upon arrival, officers collected witness accounts and put out an Illinois State Police Emergency Radio Network alert for the suspect vehicle.
A witness told police that he had been robbed, beaten with a handgun, and forced into a car, where the three suspects forced him to several locations in an attempt to obtain money from the victim’s bank accounts. He was able to escape and call 911, a news release from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office stated.
According to TV station FOX 2, the car was a white Pontiac Grand Am. Illinois State Police and other departments spotted the car traveling westbound on I-55 in Madison County with two flat tires.
The vehicle eventually came to a stop on the interstate near the Poplar Street Bridge, the FOX 2 report stated.
Three people were taken into custody and the investigation is being directed by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. The victim was taken to a local hospital due to injuries from his attack.
The department said no charges had been issued as of Wednesday evening.
