St. Louis police officer, 29, dies after Saturday shooting; suspect in custody
A St. Louis police officer who was shot Saturday has died, police said late Sunday evening.
Officials with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said Tamarris Bohannon, 29, died from wounds sustained after he and another officer responded to a shooting call Saturday. According to police, a man shot Bohannon in the head and the other officer, who has not been named, in the leg.
Bohannon was taken to an area hospital and died from his injuries on Sunday. The other officer was treated and not hospitalized.
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that we report that our critically injured officer has died. You will be deeply missed,” the department said on its Twitter page. “We cannot express how much we appreciate the hospital staff who continuously treated both officers for their injuries.”
Bohannon was an officer with the police department for nearly four years.
Police arrested a suspect after a lengthy standoff in the Tower Grove neighborhood Saturday evening. The suspect has not been identified.
