Victim of I-64 hit-and-run in East St. Louis is identified

A 31-year-old man was killed in an apparent hit-and-run Friday morning on Interstate 64 near East St. Louis.

St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. identified the victim as Gregory J. Horton, of the 1400 block of Ohio Street, St. Louis.

Illinois State Police were at the scene just east of the 25th Street interchange at about 8:47 a.m. after receiving a call about a body in the highway’s center median. Horton was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:20 a.m., Dye said.

According to state police, investigators believe the incident occurred at about 5:30 a.m.

Eastbound traffic was restricted to one lane for an extended period of time as emergency responders worked at the site.
