Millstadt man shot and killed in East St. Louis
The body of a 46-year old man from Millstadt was found slumped dead over the steering wheel of his vehicle in the 8400 block of MaryBelle Avenue in East St. Louis Saturday.
East St. Louis Police Sgt. Cantrell Patterson confirmed police are looking for a gunman and trying to establish a motive for the homicide.
St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. identified the victim as Rogelio Estrada-Lopez, of the 8100 block of Old State Route 156 in Millstadt. Dye said Estrada-Lopez was pronounced dead at at 9:22 p.m.
Patterson said police responded to the scene after receiving a report that gunshots had been fired there.
Officers found Estrada-Lopez shot in the front seat of a van.
Multiple shell casings also were found at the shooting scene, Patterson confirmed. He said police spoke with witnesses in the area, but there has not been an arrest.
“We are in the early stages of a police investigation. We are following up on leads,” Patterson said.
Illinois State Police are assisting in the investigation.
