An announcement from ISP released Wednesday stated that state troopers observed the sale of alcohol to a minor customer at the Walgreens store at 2610 State St. in Alton and at the BP Amoco station at 9504 Collinsville Road in Collinsville.

Katherine Schmidt, the clerk at the Walgreens, and Faouzi Dahane, the clerk at the BP Amoco Station, were arrested and released.

The Tuesday evening operation included surveillance of 22 businesses in Alton, Bethalto, Collinsville, Godfrey, Granite City and Wood River.

Selling alcohol to minors is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and/or a $2,500 fine.
