Surveillance video helps bring first-degree murder charge against East St. Louis man

A 31-year-old East St. Louis man was charged with first-degree murder in connection to a late-night shooting on Sept. 21.

According to a statement from the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s office, surveillance video that captured images of a vehicle and input from members of the public that helped bring the single count against Trevon V. Raymond.

Police say Raymond shot Michael Triplett, 47, also of East St. Louis, at the intersection of 10th Street and Broadway at 11:07 p.m. on Sept. 21. Triplett was transported to Saint Louis University Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Investigators from East St. Louis Police and the Illinois State Police Public Safety Enforcement Group released the surveillance video of a car believed to be connected with the shooting. Police didn’t say if the vehicle belonged to Raymond or divulge a possible motive.

Raymond is being held at the St. Clair County Jail on $1 million bond.
