One man shot, three suspects arrested, Belleville police say

A 21-year-old man was shot multiple times Thursday morning in the 800 block of North 39th Street and three suspects have been arrested, Belleville police said.

Police received a call about the shooting at 11:10 a.m., Lt. Col. Mark Heffernan said.

When officers arrived on the scene in the neighborhood off Royal Heights Road, they located the gunshot victim.

“Officers provided first aid until EMS arrived,” Heffernan said.

The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to a St. Louis hospital.

“The male suffered what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries during the incident,” Heffernan said.

Three suspects – two females and one male – are in custody, Heffernan said. Their names have not been released and charges have not been announced.

Preliminary information indicates the suspects and the victim knew each other, Heffernan said.

Police did not say whether they have established a motive.

The suspects were located by Belleville police officers and St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department deputies in the 1900 block of Reserve Walk Way, which is on the south end of Belleville and about six miles from the shooting scene.

They were arrested without incident and police are not currently looking for any additional suspects, Heffernan said.

Officers interviewed several witnesses to the shooting and were able to obtain “critical” information, said Heffernan, who serves as the assistant police chief for the department.

Anyone with information that could help police in this investigation is asked to call the Belleville Police Department at 618-234-1212.
