Person found dead in Freeburg home. Police are investigating as a homicide.

Police are investigating the death of a person found in a Freeburg home as a homicide and have taken a person into custody.

According to a release from the Freeburg Police Department, officers were dispatched to Deerfield Court on a wellness check at about 7:52 p.m. Wednesday. When they arrived, they found one person dead.

Later, Belleville police officers pulled over a vehicle registered to the victim and took the driver into custody as “a person of interest.”

The motive and circumstances remain under investigation. The victim’s identity has not yet been released, pending notification of family. Police have not discussed the state of the scene or any injuries observed on the body.
