Collinsville officers shoot man who pointed gun at them, state police says

A 30-year-old man who pointed a gun at Collinsville police officers was shot when the officers fired their weapons at him Tuesday night, Illinois State Police said Thursday.

The man was taken to an area hospital with injuries and he was in stable condition on Thursday. His name was not released.

The Collinsville Police Department requested Illinois State Police investigate the shooting.

Collinsville officers were called to the 1100 block of St. Clair Avenue at 9:14 p.m. Tuesday regarding a person with a gun, according to a preliminary investigation.

“Officers arrived and the subject, a 30-year-old male, pointed a weapon at the officers,” a news release stated. “The officers discharged their weapons striking the subject.”

The police officers were not injured, the news release said.

No other information was released by the state police.

The news release did not list how many Collinsville officers initially responded to the scene. Also, their names were not released.
