Fairview Heights man faces 10 child pornography offenses, police say

In the wake of a months-long investigation, a 57-year-old Fairview Heights man has been charged with 10 child pornography offenses, police said.

Michael C. Schneider of the Northbrook Circle Apartment Complex faces the charges, according to a news release Monday from the Fairview Heights Police Department.

The following felony charges were filed:

• Five counts of child pornography/reproduce/victim under 13.
• Five counts of child pornography/possession of photographs/victim under 13.

Schneider was arrested last week and was being held in the St. Clair County Jail Monday morning in lieu of $1 million bail.

“Due to the nature of the offenses and the age of the victims, additional details about the investigation will not be released at this time,” the news release stated.

St. Clair County court records do not list a defense attorney for Schneider.

The case was presented to the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office on Thursday and the charges were filed Friday.
