Wood River man accused of ‘improper contact’ with kids captured after search
The 67-year-old maintenance worker sought by police after he allegedly had “improper contact with minor children” at a South Roxana apartment complex has been captured, police announced Wednesday night.
Richard Heatherly of Wood River, a maintenance worker at Connor Place Apartments in South Roxana, was not in custody when two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse were filed against him, police said.
South Roxana Police Det. Lee Brousseau announced in a statement Thursday that officers from his department and from Wood River arrested Heatherly at his home without incident. He’s in custody in the Madison County Jail with bond set at $1 million.
Heatherly was on parole for a previous child pornography conviction.
Other details about the investigation were not available and Brousseau could not be reached for comment Wednesday night. The statement urged parents of children who may have spent time with Heatherly to notify police.
