Woman and man struck by gunfire in East St. Louis drive-by shooting, according to police

A 28-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man were shot Tuesday afternoon while sitting in a car in East St. Louis, according to a release from Illinois State Police.

The woman’s 5-month-old son also was injured but apparently not by gunfire. His injuries were not life-threatening, the release states.

The adults suffered life-threatening injuries and were taken to a local hospital, the release states. Their conditions were not released.

Officers from the East St. Louis Police Department and Illinois State Police Public Safety Enforcement Group responded to a 1:15 p.m. report of a shooting in the 1000 block of Bond Avenue, where they found the victims. Officers determined the shots were fired from a passing vehicle.

“The investigation is open and ongoing and no further information available at this time,” the release states.
