Two men have been arrested after Camp Jackson firefighters hear gunshots again
Two men have been arrested and charged in connection with the gunshots heard by firefighters at the Camp Jackson Fire Department building in Cahokia Heights.
The men were not firing upon the Camp Jackson firehouse but they were firing rifles and handguns on Saturday less than a mile away on Cemetery Road, which is east of the fire station, according to Master Sgt. Adam Quirin of the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department.
The building had been damaged by bullets twice previously in recent weeks.
Quirin said he could not release the names of the men because there is an active investigation ongoing regarding the men in connection with another case.
The men were each charged with four counts of unlawful possession of firearms by a felon in connection with the shooting on Saturday.
Camp Jackson Assistant Fire Chief Sharon Davis said she heard about 300 gunshots and a “dink” sound Saturday while at the station located off Illinois 157, which is also known as Camp Jackson Road.
Davis said no one was injured, and the station didn’t have any major damage. She thinks either the building’s brick exterior or a tornado siren was hit on Saturday.
Davis was happy to hear that two men were arrested and that the fire department may now decide to replace the garage door windows that were damaged by gunfire on New Year’s Eve and in late January.
Since then, the windows have been covered with tape.
