Identity of metro-east man shot to death Thursday released by county coroner

A 19-year-old man was shot and killed on North 45th Street in East St. Louis on Thursday.

St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. identified the victim as Denzel M. Woolfolk, whose last known address was the 1700 block of College Street in East St Louis.

Woolfolk was pronounced deceased at the scene in the 1500 block of North 45th Street at 4:50 p.m., according to Dye.

The death was the result of gunshot wounds, Dye said.

According to information from Illinois State Police, agents from the Public Safety Enforcement Group were requested by the East St. Louis Police Department to assist with a death investigation in the 1500 block of North 45th Street.

“An adult male was found deceased with obvious injuries,” state police said in a release. “The death investigation is open and ongoing and to protect the integrity of the investigation and to protect the integrity of the investigation, no further information is being released at this time.”
