Shots fired at a Brooklyn police officer pursuing a stolen Jeep on Interstate 70
A suspect in a vehicle being pursued by police shot at a Brooklyn officer near the Shreve Avenue exit of Interstate 70 in north St. Louis early Saturday , according to St. Louis police.
At about 12:20 a.m., St. Louis Metropolitan Police officers responded to the area to assist Brooklyn police, a news release states.
The Brooklyn officer was pursuing a black Jeep Patriot that had been reported stolen in Illinois, according to the release. Near the Shreve exit of I-70, an occupant of the Jeep rose through the vehicle’s sunroof and fired shots at the officer’s vehicle.
The officer evaded the shots and left the interstate. The officer was not injured, and the police vehicle was not damaged, the release states.
The Jeep was last seen continuing eastbound on I-70. Shell casings were found on the interstate where the officer indicated the incident had occurred.
An investigation is ongoing.
