A St. Clair County judge detained a teenager Monday on charges filed in connection with what Fairview Heights police called a “violent home invasion” when a victim was struck multiple times.

Markeithion D. Moore, 19, was arrested Aug. 28 after officers responded at approximately 2:15 a.m. regarding to Stites Avenue, according to a Fairview Heights Police Department news release.

Moore is accused of entering the home through a window and “physically battered a victim multiple times.” The victim does know Moore, police said.

“Another occupant of the residence witnessed Moore battering the victim,” the news release stated.

The suspect left the home with a stolen cellphone. A tracking feature on the phone led police officers to a nearby business, where they spotted Moore.

Moore is accused of resisting arrest and officers had to use a Taser to secure him, police said.

“After being subdued and handcuffed, Moore was escorted to a patrol vehicle but refused to enter willingly. While being placed in the vehicle, he spat on an officer,” the news release stated.

Moore was being held in the St. Clair County Jail Monday, police said.

A defense attorney for Moore was not listed in court records.

Court records show Associate Judge Sara L. Rice ordered Moore to be detained on Monday.

According to court records, the following six felony charges were filed against Moore:

  • Home invasion/cause injury
  • Aggravated battery/peace officer
  • Domestic battery
  • Three counts of domestic battery/other prior

Two misdemeanor charges also were filed against him:

  • Resisting peace officer
  • Battery

Police said Moore had an “active order of protection” placed against him.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Moore on Friday.
