Major Case Squad probing fatal shooting of teenager in St. Clair County

An 18-year-old man has been identified as the victim of a fatal shooting in unincorporated St. Clair County Monday night.

The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis was activated to investigate the death of Damonta T. Mosley in the 2400 block of Renois Lane near Cahokia Heights.

According to Lt. James Hendricks of the the St. Clair County Sheriff’s department, deputies were dispatched to the scene at about 7:19 p.m. They found Mosley inside a vehicle with at least one gunshot wound.

Mosley was transported to a St. Louis area hospital, where he later died from his injuries, according to a Major Case Squad release.

Lt. Shane Brown of the Belleville Police Department is leading the investigation, which remains in its early stages, according to a release Monday morning. Twenty-one investigators are working the case, the release said.
