One of three shot in Cahokia Heights is confirmed dead and has been identified
One of the three people who was shot in Cahokia Heights earlier this month has been confirmed dead and identified by the St. Louis Medical Examiner’s office.
Jacquan Firkins, 22, was one of three people struck by gunfire in the 5900 block of Mitchell, at the Private Mathis Manor Apartments, on Sunday, Sept. 1. He was pronounced dead at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis at 9:53 a.m. on Sept. 3, said Tara Rick of the St. Louis Medical Examiner’s office.
Firkins’ death is the 11th homicide in Cahokia Heights this year, according to reports by the Belleville News-Democrat.
A male and a female also were shot, police said. Their conditions have not been released as of Wednesday.
In a previous interview with the BND, Cahokia Heights Police Detective Sgt. DeMarius Thomas said both were doing good and expected to recover from their injuries.
Thomas said the shootings came after a fight between the victims and others. He wouldn’t say if a weapon was recovered and didn’t know what started the fight.
The case is still being investigated by the Cahokia Heights Police Department. There are no suspects and no motive at this time, Thomas said.
Cahokia Heights Police are asking anyone with information about this crime to call the police department at 618-332-1184.
