Metro-east man serving time for one murder gets sentenced in a second homicide
A Madison County man who is projected to be eligible for parole in 2092 for a murder conviction in a Madison homicide has pleaded guilty for his role in another murder case.
Larry D. Lovett, 42, was given a 75-year sentence in May on his first-degree murder conviction for killing 38-year-old Andre Hutson outside a home in Madison in December 2021. Lovett’s parole date is Jan. 4, 2092, according to records with the Illinois Department of Corrections.
In his latest case, Lovett was given a 20-year sentence after pleading guilty Sept. 16 to second-degree murder in connection with the shooting of Ahmaad Nunley, 31, in Granite City in August 2021.
Lovett was originally charged with first-degree murder in Nunley’s death but the charge was reduced in exchange because he drove a car at the scene but it was another man who fatally shot Nunley, according to the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Mantia Johnson Jr. of Granite City was convicted in Nunley’s death and was given a 55-year sentence in 2022 for his role in the shooting on Illinois 3.
