16-year-old found on Belleville street with multiple gunshot wounds, police say
A 16-year-old male with multiple gun shot wounds was found by police lying in the roadway near the curb in the 900 block of North Second Street in Belleville Saturday evening.
Belleville Police Capt. Todd Keilbach said a call reporting the shooting incident came into the police department at 6:51 p.m.
“Upon arrival, officers located a 16-year-old male victim,” he said.
Officers provided first aid to the victim before MedStar EMS arrived. The boy was taken to a St. Louis hospital for emergency treatment, Keilbach said.
Officers immediately secured the scene and began an investigation.
“The initial investigation suggests that the victim was involved in an altercation over narcotics with two other male suspects just before the shooting,” Keilbach said.
Witnesses at the scene told police the suspects are two Black males, appearing to be in their teens, wearing black clothing, said Keilbach. They were last seen fleeing toward West H Street, one on foot and the other on a bicycle, he said.
The victim’s identity has not been released.
Keilbach said the investigation is active and police are following up on leads. The suspects had not been located as of Sunday afternoon.
