Man shot protecting two girls outside metro-east nightclub, police say

Breaking news image

A man was shot in a parking lot across the street from a nightclub in Washington Park Saturday.

Police did not identify the victim other than to say he was a 35-year-old man from East St. Louis.

Washington Park Police said the man had just left Club Activated, 1221 Kingshighway, and observed the alleged shooter trying to talk two girls into going back inside the club for drinks, police said. The victim advised the females not to go back inside, prompting an exchange of words with the alleged shooter.

Police said the shooter went back to his vehicle in the club’s parking lot to retrieve a gun, which he then used to shoot the victim.

The man’s condition was not immediately available Monday, Washington Park police said.

Anyone with any information about this incident is urged to call police at 618-874-0115.
