A second Bellevile man has been charged in connection with a killing outside a Cahokia Heights liquor store in 2022, according to the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s office.

Shamon L. Jackson, 20, whose last-known address was Ninth Street in Belleville, was charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a firearm in the shooting death of Tommie L. Stevenson, of Belleville, on July 4, 2022. Jackson was being held in the St. Clair County Jail on Thursday.

Police had received a 3:10 p.m. report of a man down from gunshots at 4607 Bond Ave. in Cahokia Heights. Stevenson was found on the ground in the parking lot of Pop’s Liquor Store. He was taken to Touchette Regional Hospital, where he died, according to BND reporting on the day of the alleged crime.

Dwight Smith, 27, also of Belleville, also was charged in connection with Stevenson’s death. The first-degree murder charge against him was dismissed as part of a plea bargain in August and he was sentenced to 28 years in an Illinois prison after pleading guilty to armed robbery, according to court records.
