Madison County authorities ask for help finding robber
The Madison County Sheriff’s Department is looking for help in finding a suspect who allegedly robbed a Granite City area market.
At just before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, the suspect came into Curly’s Corner Market at 5527 Maryville Road and approached the checkout counter, according to police.
While the clerk was attending to another customer, police said the suspect reached over the counter and grabbed more than $300 in cash from the register and fled.
The suspect, who police described as a black male who is about 50 years old, got into a silver, four-door passenger car with Illinois license plates. The number on the plates could not be made out by witnesses or security cameras.
The suspect was wearing a purple T-shirt and a tan baseball hat at the time the crime was committed.
Anyone with information about his identity is asked to call the Madison County Sheriff’s Department’s dispatch center at 618-692-4433 or the department’s anonymous tip line at 618-296-3000.
