Man, 33, charged with home invasion, battering police officers in Fairview Heights
The St. Clair County State’s Attorneys office fired multiple felony charges against a 33-year-old man in connection with an attempted home invasion last week.
They allege that Joshua A. Burrow forced his way into the Fairview Heights home of a “former acquaintance,” struck her multiple times, then resisted, battered and threatened police officers who responded to the scene.
He now faces single counts of home invasion, a class X felony, battery, a misdemeanor and two counts of aggravated battery of a police officer, both class 2 felonies.
No one was seriously injured during the incident, according to a release from Fairview Heights Police.
The release states that officers responded to a reported disturbance at an apartment complex on Phillips Drive on Dec. 14. He made his way into the victim’s apartment, though she had requested previously that he stop contacting her. He then struck her multiple times in the face, police said.
During the arrest, he resisted officers by “pulling away, kicking and threatening them,” the release stated. Burrow kicked one of the officers in the chest, police allege.
His “outburst” against officers continued at the jail, according to the release.
Burrow is being held at the St. Clair County Jail. He waived a pretrial detention hearing, according to St. Clair County Circuit Clerk records.
The police department issued a statement following the incident:
“This incident highlights the professionalism and personal restraint demonstrated by our officers in the face of a volatile and physically aggressive situation.Their ability to de-escalate and secure a non-compliant individual, while ensuring the safety of all involved, reflects the high standards of training and preparedness upheld by the Fairview Heights Police Department.
