Shooting suspect arrested after standoff with St. Clair County sheriff’s deputies
A 40-year-old man was shot in the leg in unincorporated St. Clair County near Dupo Thursday, police said.
There was a brief standoff between St. Clair County deputies and the alleged shooter before an arrest was made.
Deputies from the St.Clair County Sheriff’s Department found the victim when they arrived on scene in the 300 block of McBride Avenue at about 3:27 p.m., St. Clair County Sheriff’s Lt. James Hendricks said.
“An officer with the Cahokia Heights Police Department was able to apply a tourniquet to the victim’s leg and he was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.”
The victim, who police did not identify, is in stable condition, Hendricks said.
The suspect was quickly identified at the residence, Hendricks said. Investigators negotiated with the suspect until he emerged from the home at about 5:30 p.m. The man was arrested without further incident, Hendricks said. He has not been identified since charges were still pending Friday morning.
The investigation is ongoing, Hendricks said.
