A 57-year-old man was found deceased at a residence in the 100 block of Mobley Drive in Cahokia Heights Monday night.

James Henry Simmons was identified as the victim and his death was the result of multiple gunshot wounds to the body, according to St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr.

“He was pronounced deceased at the scene at 11 p.m.,” Dye said.

Cahokia Heights police were dispatched to 128 Mobley Drive at approximately 10:18 p.m. after receiving a call reporting shots fired and a verbal disturbance at the residence, incoming Cahokia Heights Police Chief Thomas Trice said.

Officers found the victim on the ground and he appeared to be deceased, Trice said. They called for an ambulance and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit.

Police have no suspects or a motive in the shooting, Trice said.

Trice said officers are investigating whether Simmons was resident of Cahokia Heights.

A last known address for Simmons was in the 1500 block of Ferris Avenue in St. Louis, authorities sad.

There was no further police details regarding the shooting death investigation to be released at this time. Asked whether a weapon was located at the scene, Trice said he could not discuss what, if any, evidence was obtained by police.

“We are currently following up on leads and encouraging anyone with information regarding this incident to call the Cahokia Heights Police Department,” Trice said.
