Illinois State Police investigating fatal shooting of Cahokia Heights man, 41

A 41-year-old Cahokia Heights man was shot in East St. Louis Sunday night and later died at an area hospital from the gunshot wounds he sustained.

Cicero Maple, whose last known address was in the 5800 block of Old Missouri Avenue, was identified as the victim by St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr.

East St. Louis Police were dispatched to the 2400 block of Bond Avenue at 9:30 p.m. and requested the assistance of Illinois State Police in the investigation. Officers there found Maple at the scene and transported him to Touchette Regional Hospital in Cahokia Heights.

He was pronounced deceased at 10:13 p.m. His death was the result of the gunshot wounds he sustained.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information has been released.

Maple’s death is the ninth homicide reported in the Belleville News-Democrat in East St. Louis in 2025.
