St. Clair County coroner IDs shooting victim as Major Case Squad is activated
A 22-year-old Granite City woman died after she was dropped off at a local hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.
Jamya T. Dukes was identified as the victim, according to St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr.
Police are seeking the person who shot Dukes.
Dukes was pronounced deceased at 10:29 p.m. Tuesday Touchette Regional Hospital in Cahokia Heights. Her death was caused by the multiple gunshot wounds, Dye said.
Dukes’ last known address was in the 2100 block of Edison Avenue in Granite City, Dye said.
The Cahokia Heights Police Department on Wednesday requested the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis to handle the investigation.
Twenty members of the Major Case Squad are working on this case, according to a news release from the group.
The news release did not include details about the shooting.
The group said anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call the Major Case Squad at 618-332-4252 or CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477).
Capt. Todd Keilbach of the Belleville Police Department is leading the investigation.
This is the second time this year that the Major Case Squad has been requested by the Cahokia Heights Police Department. The first one occurred in February after 15-year-old Charles E. Jones was fatally shot.
