A man was shot at 59th Street and Laura Avenue in Cahokia Heights Monday afternoon, police say.

Cahokia Heights Police Chief Thomas Trice said the department received a call in reference to the shooting at 2:40 p.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a male victim suffering from gun shot wounds, he said.

The victim, who police did not identify, was transported by ambulance to an area hospital where he remains in critical condition, Trice said. He did not reside in the area of the shooting, Trice said.

Police do not know a motive for the shooting or the physical condition of the victim. He said the investigation remains “open and active.”
