Coroner IDs man killed in shooting outside metro-east nightclub
A 26-year-old St. Louis County man was killed and another man was injured in a Washington Park shooting early Monday morning.
Mark Morris Jr. of the 8700 block of Ezra Drive in St. Louis County was identified by St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. as the man who died.
Morris was pronounced deceased at 4:30 a.m. at the scene in the 2200 block of North Kingshighway, Dye said.
Police are not releasing many details about the shooting outside a nightclub called Compound.
An Illinois State Police statement confirmed agents with Zone 8 went to the 2200 block of North Kingshighway to investigate reports of a shooting.
Once state police agents arrived on the scene, they found a man who had been struck by gunfire and was pronounced deceased.
Police officials are not saying whether they know a motive for the shooting. No arrests have been announced.
A second man who was struck by gunfire was taken to an area hospital for treatment, the state police news release said. Police have not given any updates on the victim’s medical condition.
Illinois State Police officials said their homicide investigation is active and no further information was available to be released.
Morris’ death is fourth homicide this year in Washington Park, according to reports published in the Belleville News-Democrat.
