17-year-old girl killed in O’Fallon, male suspect in custody, police say

A 17-year-old female is dead and an 18-year-old male is in police custody following an incident in O’Fallon Sunday night, according to police.

Cadence E. Prince, of O’Fallon, was pronounced dead in the emergency room of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon at 9:51 p.m., said St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. She died from multiple stab wounds, he said.

The incident occurred in the parking lot of the Goshen Trailhead in the 300 block of Kyle Road, according to a release from the O’Fallon Police Department. An 18-year-old male acquaintance is in custody, it said.

“We are not searching for any other suspects, nor do we believe anyone else is involved in this incident,” according to a release from the O’Fallon Police Department. “This was not a random incident as the victim and the suspect were known to each other.”

Charges are pending against the 18-year-old suspect, the release stated.

“O’Fallon detectives are investigating the incident and anticipate presenting this case to the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s office on Tuesday for charges,” the release stated.

Police are asking anyone with information or who may have been in the area of the Goshen Trailhead between 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Sunday to contact Detective John Kostainschek at 618-624-9571.
