Identity of man who died on motorcycle fleeing metro-east police is released
A man died in a traffic crash attempting to flee police who were attempting to stop him on an active parole violation.
The victim was identified by the Madison County Coroner’s office as Montie Ritchie, 34, of Granite City.
The fatal crash occurred at Maryville Road and Pontoon Road in Granite City at about 4 p.m. Thursday, police said.
According to Illinois State Police, which is investigating, Granite City officers spotted Ritchie on a motorcycle and attempted a traffic stop. Ritchie fled at a high rate of speed and crashed into a Hyundai.
Ritchie was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:43 p.m., police said.
A toxicology test and autopsy have yet to be performed and no official cause of death has been determined, a release from the coroner’s office stated.
The investigation has been turned over to the Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation, according to the news release.
Funeral arrangements for Ritchie are pending.
