4-year-old boy injured in Belleville shooting, police say
A 4-year-old boy was struck by a bullet and his father was taken into custody early Thursday morning.
According to the Belleville Police Department, officers were dispatched to Memorial Hospital at about 7:30 a.m. in regard to the shooting, which occurred at the child’s home in the first block of North 42nd Street.
The boy suffered non life-threatening injuries, said Belleville Police Master Sgt. Dan Collins.
Back at the house, which was unoccupied when investigators arrived, multiple pieces of evidence were recovered, Collins said without specifying what was found. The father was later taken into custody.
Collins said the evidence will be presented to the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s office for possible charges.
