12-year-old hit by stray bullet at metro-east apartment complex

Police are investigating a shooting in Cahokia Heights that injured a 12-year-old.

A random bullet struck a 12-year-old in the Greystone apartments in Cahokia Heights shortly after 6 p.m. Monday, police say.

Cahokia Heights Police Chief Thomas Trice said police are following several leads and investigators have identified a “person of interest.”

The investigation remains early and no other information has been released, including the condition of the injured juvenile.
