St. Louis man to serve 10 years in prison for attempted break-in of Columbia home
One of the men convicted in connection with the attempted burglary of a Columbia home was sentenced to a decade in prison, Columbia police said Friday.
A post on the police department’s Facebook page stated Joseph S. Garcia, 39, of St. Louis and two other men tried to break into the back door of an empty home in the 800 block of Meadowview Lane on Dec. 17, 2014. Police spotted Garcia, Derek Ewald and Ryan Ewald in the act, the post said.
Garcia and Ryan Ewald were taken into custody at the scene. Derek Ewald fled in the car the men were using but was later captured by Columbia police and Monroe County deputies. Police learned during their investigation that Garcia and both Ewalds also had tried breaking into a home in the 1000 block of Bradington Court.
Additional information about Derek and Ryan Ewald was not immediately available.
