Granite City man charged with making terrorist threat at courthouse

A 37-year old Granite City man was charged Monday with making a terrorist threat after a court hearing in Edwardsville last week.

Eric M. Blumenstock faces felony counts of making a terrorist threat at threatening a public official.

During a pretrial hearing on unrelated misdemeanor charges, Blumenstock allegedly stated that he “intended to shoot up the Madison County Courthouse” in Edwardsville. He also threatened to kill a police .officer, charges state.

The Edwardsville Police Department handled the case and presented it to Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Haine’s office for charges.

Haine’s office petitioned to deny Blumenstock pre-trial release.

Blumenstock is bering held at the Madison County Jail.
