Woman says Belleville man beat her ‘for hours’ while threatening to kill her
A Belleville man is being held at the Marion County Jail after allegedly battering and threatening to kill his former girlfriend, according to police.
The victim’s concerned supervisor contacted police Tuesday morning, after the woman arrived at her place of employment with visible injuries, police said in a news release.
DeAndrew Brown, 37, of Belleville, was arrested and faces multiple charges, including home invasion, unlawful restraint, aggravated domestic battery and interference with the reporting of domestic violence.
The woman, whose name isn’t being released, told police Brown arrived at her home at about 2:30 a.m. and forced his way inside.
He then spent several hours physically assaulting her, including strangling her to the point of unconsciousness, slamming her head into the wooden floor and punching her several times in the face, according to police.
She also reported that Brown threatened to kill her multiple times, once offering her the chance to call family members to say goodbye, the release stated.
The woman’s supervisor contacted police around 6:07 a.m., when the victim arrived at work. The victim reportedly told her supervisor she had been severely beaten and that Brown had taken her cellphone and refused to return it.
The woman then returned to a vehicle with Brown because she feared he would harm the supervisor, the release alleged. When they arrived back at her residence in the 700 block of 11th Street in Centralia, Brown allegedly became “enraged” upon seeing police in the area and drove her to East St. Louis while continuing to issue violent threats.
Police later spotted the vehicle back in Centralia and arrested Brown without further incident.
