Alleged car thief sought after O’Fallon thefts

O’Fallon police are looking for the person who allegedly stole one vehicle Thursday and then stole another one Monday.

Security cameras captured footage of the suspect who police say first stole a purple 1996 Chrysler Town & Country with a rusty hood from the AutoZone parking lot at 108 E. U.S. 50 between 7:30 and 8 a.m. Thursday. The suspect then allegedly stole a silver 2013 Kia Optima from the parking lot of the BP Amoco station on 720 S. Lincoln Ave. at 8:43 a.m. Monday.

Police said the store clerk and the owner of the Optima attempted to stop the suspect but were nearly run over as he fled.

Police said that in each case the cars were unlocked with the keys inside. Anyone with any information about the suspect or his whereabouts is urged to call O’Fallon police at 618-624-4545.
