A teenage boy is in critical but stable condition at a St. Louis-area hospital after being shot multiple times Monday, Belleville police said.

Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Royal Heights Road at about 10:27 p.m. Monday, where they found the victim with gunshot wounds to his lower torso. Officers and emergency medical services workers rendered aid before transporting him to a hospital.
According to the release, police identified a suspect, another male juvenile, and arrested him in the 4100 block of Shirley Drive in Belleville at about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. He is being held at the St. Clair County Juvenile Detention Center.
Because of their ages, the identities of the victim and suspect have not been released.
“At this stage of the investigation, the incident appears to be isolated, and the individuals involved are known to one another,” the Belleville Police Department press release stated.
