O’Fallon police have to release man suspected of making lewd remarks to boy in park

O’Fallon police said Tuesday, with assistance from the public, they had located the middle-aged man who is suspected of making lewd comments to a boy at Community Park, located at 401 E. Fifth St.

The 52-year-old man from Florissant, Mo., was taken into custody around 11 a.m. and has since been released.

“Because he’s not a state resident, we still have to go through extradition procedure,” Lt. James Cavins said.

Cavins said police “had no choice.” But he said police felt the man was not a further threat to anyone.

Police could not release more details about the circumstances of the case, including the man’s identity, because the investigation is ongoing.

The case will be presented to the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office for review pending official charges. Cavins said he is confident the case will result in charges.
