Suspect caught within five minutes of Swansea bank robbery, police say
Charges are pending against a man arrested within five minutes of a robbery at a Swansea credit union, authorities said.
The suspect’s name has not been released pending formal charges.
Swansea police were called to Arsenal Credit Union at 4384 N. Illinois St. Friday afternoon for a reported bank robbery, police said.
Bank employees were able to give officers a “detailed description” of the suspect and which way he fled the scene.
“Swansea officers arrived quickly, located the suspect, and took him into custody within five minutes of the bank robbery,” states a news release from the police department on Monday. No other details about the robbery were released and the case was turned over to federal officials.
A spokesman for the FBI said the case is pending before the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Illinois.
A representative from the prosecutor’s office could not be reached for comment.
