Coroner releases ID of metro-east woman found dead in her apartment

Authorities are conducting a homicide investigation after a 37-year-old woman was found dead Tuesday in her apartment in the village of Brooklyn.

St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. identified the victim as Dolnesha A. Jones.

She was pronounced dead at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday inside her residence in the Thomas Terry Apartments, a public housing complex in the 600 block of South Sixth Street

Dye said her cause of death appears to be suffocation. An autopsy is pending.

Illinois State Police responded to the scene on Tuesday afternoon and canvassed the area. An agency spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the investigation.

Brooklyn Police Chief Tony Tomlinson also could not be reached for comment.
