O’Fallon police are investigating an apparent domestic altercation Thursday morning that resulted in a shooting that sent a woman to the hospital.

O’Fallon Police Department Lt. Patrick Feldhake said police received a call at 8 a.m. for an incident in the area of North Vine and East Washington, a residential area.

He would not comment on the extent of the woman’s injuries or confirm whether they were gunshot wounds. A social media post from the department, however, says officers are investigating a shooting and that the victim’s injuries are not life-threatening.

“The situation is under control and there is no threat to the community,” the post reads.

As of 9:50 a.m., police are interviewing witnesses to piece together what exactly happened, Feldhake said. There’s still a smaller police presence at the site, and the department will likely enlist Illinois State Police to help process the scene, he said.
