Charges filed after O'Fallon woman is shot during altercation outside her home
A Fairview Heights man has been charged with two Class X felony counts of home invasion after police said a woman was wounded by gunfire during a domestic-related altercation outside an O’Fallon home last week.
Tyrell Billey, 36, was taken into custody at the scene and booked into the St. Clair County Jail, the O’Fallon Police Department said in a news release. A 29-year-old man also taken into custody was later released without charges.
Police said officers were called about 8 a.m. May 21 to the 100 block of North Vine Street for a report of a shooting. They found a 36-year-old woman with a gunshot wound on a front porch near the entrance of the residence. Investigators determined she was inadvertently struck during the altercation between the two men, which began in the driveway, police said.
The woman was taken to a local hospital and treated for injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.
Illinois State Police crime scene investigators recovered firearms, shell casings and other evidence, police said. An 18-year-old woman and two juveniles were present and were not hurt. They were released to family members, police said.
