Wood River brothers charged in beating that killed South Roxana man

Twin brothers from Wood River face involuntary manslaughter charges almost four months after an Alton bar fight left a South Roxana man so badly injured that he eventually died.

A Madison County grand jury issued indictments Thursday against Adam Hosford and Aaron Hosford, both 35. The brothers got into a verbal argument outside Danny’s Lounge in Alton around 3 a.m. May 3 with John Gleason, 43, of South Roxana, and then allegedly kicked and punched Gleason repeatedly after the fight turned physical. The brothers then allegedly hid the clothing and shoes they wore the night of the fight.

Gleason suffered severe injuries and remained hospitalized until he died June 6.

Involuntary manslaughter is a Class 3 felony that carries a maximum five-year prison term with the potential of an extended term of 5-10 years. Obstructing justice is a Class 4 felony carrying a maximum prison term of three years. Aaron Hosford additionally faces a felony cocaine-possession charge.

Both Adam and Aaron Hosford are free on bond.
