Belleville man faces DUI, involuntary manslaughter charges in fatal New Year’s Eve crash

A Belleville man who police say was drunk at the wheel when he was involved in a crash that killed one person and severely injured another on New Year’s Eve now faces charges nine months after the crash occurred.

Willie Green, 27, faces charges of involuntary manslaughter, driving under the influence, armed criminal action, assault and leaving the scene of an accident.

According to St. Louis city court records, Green was driving a Mercedes sedan northbound on Jefferson Avenue in St. Louis around 9:30 p.m. New Year’s Eve when he ran a red light at Chouteau Avenue and struck a Mistubishi Lancer that had just entered the intersection. The collision killed Xander Wohlstadter, 20, of St. Louis, who was driving, and severely injured Wohlstadter’s girlfriend, 16-year-old Emma Casey of St. Louis.

Green then got out of his car and ran away, but police found and arrested him shortly after the crash. Police said Green’s blood alcohol level was over 0.16 — more than twice the legal limit, and that he was speeding at the time of the crash.
