Gunman caught after robbing ESL Walgreens

EAST ST. LOUIS An alleged gunman was being held Wednesday on suspicion of robbing the Walgreens store at 25th and State streets.

Police said the man walked into the store, pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded money about 10 a.m. He left on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Witnesses to the robbery helped police nab the suspect. Charges are pending. Police Chief Michael Hubbard said the suspect fled the area on a bicycle.

Witnesses observed him leave the store on a bicycle and notified the East St. Louis police dispatchers. Police officers located the suspect in the 2900 block of Renshaw Street. Our officers and the U.S. marshals arrested the suspect without incident.
