Suspect in Belleville bank robbery arrested in Quincy
The man who police say robbed the Scott Credit Union branch Saturday on Carlyle Avenue in Belleville was arrested in Quincy, more than 150 miles away, Belleville police said Thursday.
According to Belleville Police Detective Sgt. Mark Heffernan, a Belleville police officer and an FBI agent were headed to Quincy to interview Deondre E. Jones on Thursday evening. Jones was arrested Thursday afternoon, Heffernan said. Additional details about the arrest were not immediately available.
Jones, 45, of Belleville, allegedly implied he was armed when he demanded cash at the credit union around noon Saturday. He then left with an undisclosed amount of cash. Heffernan said security cameras at the bank captured footage of the robbery.
A short time after the robbery, police stopped a man who they believed was involved. That man was arrested and remains in custody on an unrelated parole violation. Though he has yet to be charged and his name has not been released, police said they believe both he and Jones were involved in the crime.
The investigation remains ongoing by Belleville police and the FBI, Heffernan said.
